Iris 'Miss Apple'

(Siberian iris)

This short Siberian iris carries the flower on strong stems. The purple-red falls are as near to red as you'll get in an iris bloom. The yellow signal is so large it radiates in broad rivers nearly to the edge of the falls. The standards are quite short and lilac like the broad style arms. A lovely plant.

Siberian irises are tolerant of a wider range of soils than Bearded irises, but they do prefer a moist soil. However, if the soil drains well during the summer, the trick is to make sure they do not dry out when they are first planted. Very hardy to -10 degrees or more, the leaves die back in autumn and emerge again in spring. Remove old foliage before new leaves start to grow. Does not need frequent division like bearded irises.
