Salvia x sylvestris 'Crystal Blue'
(Hardy sage/Balkan clary)
A mound of oval, grey-green leaves is covered with dense, but slim spikes of small, sage-like, pale blue flower. A chance seedling discovered among other Salvias on a nursery in North America that will attract bees well into the summer. A plant I much admired in Monty Don's Dog Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025.

A hardy perennial this copes with temperatures down to -10 degrees or more as long as the soil does not become waterlogged over winter. Like many Hardy Sages, cut back the old stems as the blooms fade and the plant will produce more flowers.
