A hardy perennial, which means it comes back year after year, is hardy to -10 or more but may, like many perennials, take a year or so to establish its final size. The leaves die back in winter leaving a brown heap that will provide cover for over-wintering insects. Remove the dead foliage in spring before new leaves emerge.
