Peony 'Thunderbolt'

The glossy, slight crumpled petals are deepest red, a tone that is almost brown. Unfurling into two ruffled rows they frame a tight circle of gold stamens with red filaments and cerise-tipped, soft-green carpels. Opening to face outwards, the blooms are carried on short flower stems just proud of the heavily red-tinted leaves that cover this wide shrub.
