Peony 'Cream Puff'

The small flowers when first open have rich pink guard petals that quickly fade unevenly to very pale pink, then to near white. The big, cushion-like centre of slim, cream staminodes gain pink stains and become crinkled with age. They also loosen show red tipped carpels. Not a particularly free-flowering plant, the dark red, upright stems carry the flowers just above the dark green, wrinkled edged leaves with no side buds.

Peonies will grow in most soils as long as they are not wet, including clay soils. They require a sunny or partially shaded site. Herbaceous peonies need to be planted with the eye (the dormant pink buds) no more than 2.5cm below the surface of the soil. Do not mix manure in the soil before planting as this may rot the eyes.
