An annual plant, sow between January to March on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or a warm place and keep at a temperature of between 20-25°C (68-77°F). After sowing do not exclude light as this helps germination which usually takes 10-21 days.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler condition for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost has passed, 23-30cm (9-12") apart or plant into baskets and containers filled with a good quality potting compost.
