A favourite of mine, if only because the flowers are so wonderfully coloured round petals. Soft white falls are lightly edged with a rim of soft lemon. The falls are rimmed with deep yellow and rivered with lines of purple, then washed towards the base with maroon.

Bearded irises need to be planted with the rhizome, or root, just above the soil. This is because the rhizome needs to be baked by the sun in order to form flowers. Make sure that there is not too much competition from surrounding plants and remove any weeds.
