The very dark red blooms have slender petals, three of which are gently rippled along the edges, the other three (which are in fact sepals) are smooth and curl back on themselves. The centre is rich lemon, a tone that creates a feint line down the centre of the petals. Borne on slender stems that carry many, many buds the flower are carried above a clump of long, fine mid-green leaves.
