A hardy perennial, this survives temperatures down to -10 degrees or more. The leaves die back in autumn and emerge again in spring. Cut back old foliage before the new leaves start to grow. Echinacea can be rather temperamental garden plants, often not returning the following season. Why? I'm unsure, but I've found removing old flowers helps to increase longevity, and although they like a well-drained soil, they don't like it too dry. Can fade in damper soils.
