Dianthus 'Mrs Sinkins'

(Hardy pink)

Shaggy, white flowers are borne on stiff, grey stems above a clump of long thin grey foliage. Wonderfully fragrant. The essence of a cottage garden. This was raised in 1870s (although other sources state 1868) in a workhouse garden and commemorated Catherine Sinkins, of Albert House, the Slough Poor Law Institution where she was matron from 1867 to 1900. Mrs Sinkins died in 1917 and she was buried in St. Mary's, Slough.
