Claire Austin: 25 years, 4 locations, 6 nurseries
Claire Austin is an award-winning nurserywoman, garden writer, RHS Council Member and a leading authority on herbaceous perennials, peonies, bearded irises. The daughter of the world-famous rose breeder, David Austin, Claire struck out on her own 25 years ago to pursue her personal horticultural passions, founding her independent plant nursery - Claire Austin Hardy Plants - in 1999. Now based at White Hopton Farm in the Welsh Borders, Claire runs the peat-free nursery with husband, Ric Kenwood, where they have developed a much-photographed perennial garden and hold the National Collection of Herbaceous Peonies and the National Collection of Bearded Irises. Their nursery exhibits at both the RHS shows at both Malvern and Chelsea have been awarded Gold. Claire is a regular contributor to gardening magazines and has won acclaim for her self-published books: ‘Peonies’ and ‘Claire Austin’s Book of Perennials’.
Advolly Richmond: Garden Historian and author of 'A Short History Of Flowers'
Advolly Richmond is a plants, gardens and social historian based in Shropshire. She is a Champion for the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and a member of the Garden Media Guild. She lectures and writes on a variety of subjects from the 16th century through to the early 20th century. Advolly’s new book ‘A Short History of Flowers: The stories that make our gardens’ was published on 7th March 2024. She also contributes garden history features on BBC's Gardeners’ World and presents plant history profiles for BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time.
