This is one of the most lovely shrubs, but as this plant is grow from seed both the flowers and shape of shrub can vary. Most often dark red, the small, single blooms can be anything in colour from near black to apricot. They are carried in clusters on short branched stems just above the gorgeous deeply, divided, mid-green leaves. Well worth a spot in the garden where it can be allowed to grow to its true size.
Easy to grow. Needs no attention unless the plant gets too big for the situation. Prune back to half its height by cutting the woody stems to a leaf bud in spring just before the leaves emerge. Will produce seeds that may take a while to germinate, but easy to grow.
