MOVING NURSERY
Claire Austin started growing herbaceous perennials, also known as Hardy
Plants, in 1983, under the umbrella of David Austin Roses. In 1999 the
business changed its name to Claire Austin Hardy Plants and a year later
we moved to a 2 acre site in Shifnal where we stayed for 6 years.
In 2006 the current site came up for sale and so we
upped sticks once again and moved to an existing, rather neglected, garden
centre with 5 acres. Despite having so much to do, we have now established
a garden, and sorted out the sales and shop area. The move has allowed
us to expand into areas we were unable to touch in Shifnal. Talks are
planned, and other projects to do with perennials are underway.
Our Philosphy
- GOOD GARDEN PLANTS
We believe selling only what we know to be a 'Good Garden' plant. All
the varieties we list have been grown by us to see how hardy they are
and if they are of true garden value. Today there are many plants so similar
in nature to one another that without testing them first we cannot choose
the best.
GROWING OUR OWN
We grow as many of our own plants as we can during the propagation season.
These are potted into peat-free compost. To be frank this is not because
of 'political correctness' but over the last 8 years we have found it
to be an excellent growing medium for most perennials.
We would like to thank all those customers who, year after year. continue
to enjoy the same plants as we do!
