This is probably the easiest Actaea (once called Cimicifuga) to grow, probably because it is not too tall. A bottle brush of small, beautifully - if lightly - scented, white flowers top stiff upright stems above a mound of deeply divided mid green leaves.

Hardy to -10 degrees and more. The foliage dies back in autumn and emerges in spring. Cut back old foliage before new shoots start to show. Like all actaeas this likes a soil that does not dry out and is ideal for a shady spot. It will take a while to fill out.
