VALERIANA   These include the herbal plant Valerian. All are good garden plants, if somewhat invasive. The tiny flowers are carried in umbels on upright stems and are delicately scented. Sun or partial shade.

officinalis A true thrug, especially in damp soils, but ideal as a backdrop to a 'wild' border. The leaves are deeply divided and the tall stems are topped with large umbels of small white flowers. 150cm (5ft) June to August. £4.50 BUY NOW

phu 'Aurea'
This produces startlingly yellow foliage in spring. Later this turns soft green and short stems of white, beautifully scented flowers appear. £4.50
