About Herbaceous Peonies
Herbaceous peonies look fabulous with irises, hardy geraniums, salvias and nepeta. They die back totally during the winter. Plants are despatched bare rooted from November to March. Planting instructions are sent with each order.

Planting requirements
They require a sunny, well-drained soil. They do best in a soil that more on the heavy side.
Soils that contain clay are ideal, providing it drains well. If grown in a light sandy soil it is best to incorporate some very well-rotted manure well before planting peonies. They also like a lot of light and if planted in a shady situation may not flower properly.

Flowering times & height
Flowering period: Most flower during the first two weeks in June. Early indicates end of May; late is during the middle two weeks of June.
Height: Most grow to around 90cm (3ft). Small is around 75cm (2.5ft) , Tall is up to 105cm (3.5ft)

Terms used
Single: Flowers with one row of petals.
Semi-double: Flowers with at least two rows of petals.
Double: These are generally full of petals, but some are more densely packed than others.
Japanese: These have large guard petals that surround an inner cluster of slim petals.
Guard petals: These are the large outer petals.
