I cannot emphasise too much how marvellous daylilies are. They are hardy, disease resistant, easy to grow and tolerant of so many situations. Put them in and they need no attention, yet each year the garden is rewarded with dramatic sprays of lily-shaped flowers for weeks on end. These emerge from a bold clump of rich green strappy leaves.

The flowers:
Each flower is generally about 10cm to 12.5cm (4 to 5in) across. There are smaller blooms that tend to be only 5cm (2in) in size.

Flowering period: Peak flowering period is around the middle of July. Daylilies marked ‘Early’ bloom during the 1st week of July, while those marked ‘Late’ will begin during the middle of the month and continue into the beginning of August.
